Sanguinarian Vampires (or Sang-Vamps as they are most commonly known), are those that need the pure Pranic energy that is found in fresh blood to survive (the blood has to be fresh as Prana soon fades away from the blood once it has left a living host). It is more than a simple craving and more severe than an addiction as they have a physical requirement to consume fresh blood in order to obtain the purest form of Prana. If a Sang-Vamp tries to deny their need then they will inevitably fall critically ill and if their needs aren’t met at all then eventually it will lead to their death.

Blood feeding is not a sexual novelty to the Sanguinarian and this is what separates them from the blood fetishists who do it merely for the kick of doing something taboo. Although these Vampire aspirants will often class themselves as a “Vampire” they aren't a true Sanguinarian as they can stop the consumption of blood with only psychological withdrawal symptoms that soon pass whereas a Sanguinarian is practically committing suicide by not feeding as eventually they will die without it. Another thing that separates blood fetishists from Sangs is the fact that they are quite happy to consume ineffective butcher’s blood which has no Pranic nutrition whatsoever as it is essentially “dead” blood and therefore of no use to a true Sang-Vamp.

When it comes to feeding, Sangs can exist off of animal blood but many Sangs find it to be quite unpalatable and the importance of finding large amounts of fresh animal blood comes with its own obvious problems. The need to feed varies but for a Sang-Vamp to be fully sustained it’s usually in quantities and of a frequency that would make a non-Sanguinarian baulk in disgust. A Sanguinarian can easily consume pints of blood per month, hence the need to find a ring of Donors if a Sang-Vamp wishes to be fully satiated as taking from just one Donor can deplete them of their vital blood and Prana resulting in sickness and potential death. Many Sangs actually prefer just one Donor as feeding is a very intimate process and blood sharing is a very risky thing to do due to blood borne diseases.

As a result of the aforementioned dangers which present themselves when taking blood from numerous Donors; many Sangs live on the bare minimum amount of blood needed to stay healthy which averages at around a shot glass full of blood over the course of a month. Consequently many Sangs turn to Psi-Vamp feeding techniques as a way to keep their Prana topped up when they are not able to feed on fresh blood which can keep them going in much the same way as caffeine does for a human when they are tired - it’s not a cure but it will tide them over.

Most (I cannot vouch for all) Sanguinarian Vampires are very respectful of life and are immensely grateful for their precious donors. As a result of their selfless sacrifice for vampires; Donors are treasured by their Vampire and treated with the upmost respect and gratitude.

There is no easy way of telling the difference between a Sang-Vamp, Psi-Vamp or human although Psi-Vamps and Sangs can usually sense each other due to a Vamps naturally heightened 6th sense (a Vamps aura tends to have a different feel to humans). Sanguinarians don't actually have naturally retracting fangs as Hollywood depicts (although many Sangs choose to use prosthetic fangs when feeding or in large groups so Sangs can be differentiated from Donors or simply for the aesthetic appeal) and they aren’t kept away by crosses, garlic or holy water, nor will they spontaneously combust when in sunlight, although, as with their Psi-Vamp counterparts - they are more sensitive to sunlight than humans and so will naturally develop a nocturnal body clock.

"Faith is a quiet certainty that there is both a higher purpose to life and a higher power that oversees that purpose. Faith is knowing that we do not have to go it alone during our darkest hours and, even when we feel utterly victimized and weak, there is still something brighter, purer, and more potent than anything we can imagine that cares enough to reach out and offer a shoulder for us to lean upon. The object of faith takes many forms and many names, but the universal truth is Faith itself." - Michelle Belanger
